Help! My 2003 E 150 has major damage!
My husband and I purchased a 2003 Ford Econoline 150 about 4 months ago. Although it is a 2003, the van was used. It had a little less than 25,000 miles on it. The dealer told us that it had been a rental but that maintenence was routinly performed and the van was perfect. All seemed well at the time. The van has a 3 year, 36,000 warranty on it. Now, to cut to the chase. 2 days ago, we were driving hom very slowly in the snow on the highway when all of a sudden thre was a god awful noise and the back end dropped. Our rear tire was sticking out 3 feet away from the car! Mechanic said he had never seen so much damage before done to a new car. Turns out the transmisson is gone, the axel is shot, the gears are ruined and some bar thats under the van was completely shattered!!! Although repairs are covered under the warranty, I am nervous about what else might "GO" on this thing. Do I have any recourse with the dealer at all? Considering the major damage, I think it's best to get an extension on my warranty. Any advice on how to make the dealer pick up the tab? By the way, the van now has 5,000 miles left under the current warranty. Thanks!
