Hey guys, I recently bought my '74 F100 (2WD) and the previous owner told me that "a buddy of his" put in a bigger rear axle than the stock one. So I was wondering if I could get some help figuring out what axle it is.
The only numbers I could see on it were on the front (toward front of truck) side: D2SW-C ,and lower down: 2649. Its a 10-bolt cover that opens from the front also, so there's no rear cover.
Lemme know if I need to search for other numbers or anything else to help figure this out. Thanks
If the bolts are on the front, it sounds like the stock 9 inch rear that came in it!
The third member (the removable housing with the gears in it) might be modified though.
the upgrade was probably from a 28 spline 9" to a 31 spline 9". the read you stated is a 9" since it has the removable 3rd member like already stated. if i had to bet on it, i'd bet it was upgraded from 28 to 31 spline rear.
