E-250 Spedo Question (I know I know)

I know this is Ford TRUCKS, but I figured I would ask this here about my ford E250 since it is basically a truck

I have a few question on how the SPEEDO works on my 2003 E250. Does it run off the tranny or how does it pick up the speed? (Analog)

Also, is there someone who can give me detailed instructions on how to disconect my speedo? Would I disconnect it at the tranny or behind in the dash? I know this seems strange, but the unusual thing is that I want to PUT miles on the speedo.

If you can point me in the right direction, this would help also

Hopefully someone can help

Thanks again

Even though it looks analog, the speedo is fed from a speed sensor. Some of the trucks/vans had the sensor mounted in the rearend. Your van is so new, I would not venture to guess where it is. But I would be careful messing with it. The speed sensor has many jobs in the later vehicles. Besides running the speedo, it gives the fuel injection computer info so it can make fuel delivery decisions, gives a reference for the cruise control, and sends a signal to the anti-lock brake system if you have one.

Well, I think this might be a dealer thing(sorry to say). But it has to be regulated somehow. If a speedo unit was repaired or replaced, you would think they could program in the mileage that was on the old speedo to keep the mileage documented correctly for the vehicle.

And I have a feeling, whether you have good intentions to add mileage, or bad intentions to take miles off, that it is probably not legal to mess with it.

YEah I am not intended on taking miles off since it only has 500 miles on it. I just need to match the original miles on it from when I replaced it.

So I need an easy way to ADD miles to it
