Clear Coat Depth
When spraying more than one coat of clear (like 3-4 or more?), do I need to wet sand between coats in order to get that deep look? I’m doing a rather bland color so would like it to look deep. Kinda like they do with the high grade Mercedes paint jobs. What’s the trick?
If it helps, I’m using all PPG products.
Thanks Guys.
No, you do not have to sand between coats. Sanding is used to remove defects.
I usually plan 3-4 coats, colorsanding (to remove the nibs and orange peel) and then buffing the shine back. All my coats of clear are put on at the same time.
Some will spray their basecoat, then a 50/50 mix of basecoat/clearcoat, and top it off with a couple coats of clear. The 50/50 mix helps add depth to the color. I do not know if you can do that with the PPG products you are using.
