my 64 4x4 has a 400m in it now, with a tubular crossmember, I was wondering what the difference in mounting is as i am istalling a 70 390 4V in it, any help will be appreciated thanks 19644x4
Be advised that the 390 is a completely different animal than the 400M. Nothing will bolt up to both motors, except things like radiator hoses and carburettors.
Neither the 400 nor the 390 (any FE engine for that matter) were used in '64.
We need a little more information about what you're doing to really help.

Sounds like the "tubular crossmember" holding the 400 is an aftermarket / non-stock part. TransDapt used to offer such a piece, called it a "universal" crossmember. As I recall, the TransDapt catalog listed which motor mounts to use, depending on engine family. I am sure there were other manufactures of conversion crossmembers, but TransDapt is the only one I remember.
There is a possibility the crossmember is one from a early to mid 60's full size Ford car. Used several of them in years past, also. They were about 3" diameter round tubing, easy to work with.
Hope this helps.
