Factory Backspacing..

Anyone know what the backspacing on the factory wheels are?

I would go out and pull one and measure it but its been between -5 and 15 degrees with snow everyday since I got the truck.

I don't know, but be careful with aftermarket wheels.

Crawl under your truck and take a look at the inside of the front wheel. The brake line connecting to the caliper and the lower ball joint stud have only a few millimeter's clearance to the wheel.

I've seen "backspacing" mentioned when talking about wheels (stock or aftermarket).

For the truck newbies (like myself) can someone please define backspacing and its significance when replacing factory wheels?

Thank you!

Not sure how to explain it but I will give a shot. The hub in the center of your wheel from the backside of it to the edge of the wheel.

Maybe easier to understand Lay a flat edge across the back of your wheel and measure to the nearest point on the center of your wheel.

Oh and the significance is to tell how much wheel will be tucked underneith the truck as to not rub anything on the suspension.

Backspacing is the offset I believe. Its the amount of wheel that extends either under the truck (positive offset) or outside the vehicle (negative offset). Deep dish wheels would have a negative offset in that all the weight would be distributed outside the vehicle where the dish is as opposed to under the vehicle as a positive offset as the manufacturers recommend. Also this is the clearance during normal operation, turns and bumps to ensure your wheels/tires dont rub or impact anything.
