Hi gamecock and welcome to FTE

What size engine do you have? Any previous history or problems?

OH NO, Not coolant in the cylinder I hope.
Have you had to add coolant to the tank lately?
www.leakingfords.com would be a good plase to start.

I have '99 with 4.2l. I have had the problem also. It seams to happen on damp cold days.I read somewhere they called it piston slap.It mainly happened when I drove short drives around town, then the following morning it would happen. I would shut it off and restart engine and it went away everytime. I put new wires and plugs in at 90k and it helped. It has happened since, but if i baby it for few blocks, it will go away.

Well if the piston slaps then get it fixed, the piston is probably bent or there is an oil leak.
