Hi everyone,
What is the largest tire I can put on a stock 98 4x4 Ranger? I want something big but not so big that if I hit a bump when the wheel is turned it will hit my fender.

31x10.50's will fit, have also heard of people using 33x10.50, and 32x11.50 with no problems. The 265/76-16's should be about 32" tall and 10.5" wide.
Mine has 31x10.50's on it. Only thing that they rub on is the rubber skirt that covers the side of the wheel well. If I get out the tuck that shirt back it doesn't touch it, I just need to get some zip ties to keep it in place. Other than that, seems like there is room to put bigger tires without rubbing. I would have either put on 33x10.50's or 32x11.50's on my truck but my axle ratio is only 3.73 and I don't want to make it any lower.
My dad's got oversized tires on his work van and they rub the fender at full lock, so he just doesn't turn as sharp anymore
bjw is correct, the calc is:
((265*0.75)/25.4 mm/inch)*2 +16 = 31.64 inches
I went from 3.73 gearing 235/70/16 to 255/70/16 which is only 1" or so different, and I can feel that I have lost a little power when I hit the gas from a stop, so I'd be cautious about how big you go..
In U.S. measurements, mine are 32" tall x 10.5" wide on a 16" wheel. I do rub the rubber mud guard at full steer, so I am quite sure that a tire 11.5" wide would rub really bad. Also, 10.5" is the maximum recommended tire width for these OEM 7" wide wheels. My advice is, if you don't have a lift, stick with a 265/75 (metric) or smaller.
