Another weird Ranger noise
2000 3.0 FFV 5 speed 4x4 Offroad 43,000 miles
I have another weird noise that hopefully someone has had/seen/heard of, etc.
Recently (especially in below zero weather) when I am driving and my temperature gauge is approaching normal I hear a high-pitched whining noise from probably around the transmission, but I can't be sure. It might actually be anywhere in the engine or under the truck.
When I either 1) hold the gas constant and push in the clutch or 2) just let off the gas the noise stops and goes away and does not come back.
It only has happened as the truck is warming up - it never happens while the truck is cold and never after it gets really warm.
The part about letting off the gas or pushing the clutch in leads me to believe it is transmission or driveshaft because they would slow down or disengage when I do those things. Maybe something is out of sync or something? I have the steel driveshaft, not aluminum.
It could be lots of stuff but the part about it only happening as the truck approaches normal operating temperature (and not before and not after normal operating temperature) might be a valuable clue.
I don't experience any loss of power or decresed performance when the noise happens - I just let off gas or push in clutch and it is gone - but man it is annoying and frustrating.
I already have the serpentine belt noise and had the door ajar thing and now this.
Thanks in advance
