thursday morning. woke up at 11:00 AM. tried going to sleep at 1200 that night, then 200, then 300, couldnt sleep so i pulled an "all nighter" and went to the airport @ 600 am friday morning without sleep. got to the airport, and the tickets were screwed up thanks to incompetent reservation takers at NWA. so i went to the bar and got 2 very tall screwdrivers, which to my surprise were 1/2 vodka. i thought theyd rip me off, but i got my 8 bucks worth out of each drink. ( info- i needed these to sleep )
so we finally get on the plane, and get to florida. its 70 degrees and sunny. beautiful. rent a car, drive to my sisters house. then go to a restaurant to eat. meet some of my sisters friends who told me repeatedly " yeah, fly back to minnesota, load up your truck, and drive down here, plenty of jobs/work" one guy replies "yeah we are usually done at noon" hey thats great, unless youre getting paid by the hour. if im going to drive 1500 miles to work for 2 months, it better be full time.
so saturday night, i hit the strip ( the beach at Cape Coral ) and to my suprise, i was kinda out of place. all the chicks i was talking to were 16, ( im 21 ) and most of the people are senior citizens, or at least 35. i just about knocked some guys head off for making a few comments, but he was drunk so i sorta let it slide. so then i continued to drink so that i could soak up the fact that it seemed pretty boring.
traffic sucks there. very bad. people drive like buttholes. i did landscaping for my sisters friend for 5 hours saturday. i definantly dont like working for him neither did my nephew when he was there.
so to sum it up... all the chicks i met were cool but too young, i have no "job security" once i get there, i hate the traffic even worse than minnesota's traffic, and its 1500 miles from home. i just dont have the right feeling about the situation.
sorry for the long novel i just wrote. on the upside, i get to stay at my sisters house, and its alot warmer there ( its 0 degrees here tonight )
You came down here and did'nt visit Tampa!!! I see how you are...........lol. Next time you come down let me know i'll show ya around the Tampa/St Pete and Clearwater area.
Did you say most of the people are senior citizens, or at least 35? Man, you got a suprise coming. Your gonna be 35 soon enough. And you too will take offense in being used in the same classification as senior citizens.
Sorry you had bad feelings about it, but at least now you know (before you packed and hauled yourself down there)!
It's always tough going to a new area, even temporarily. I hope you find work closer to home, although maybe if you'd stayed in Fla longer something would have come up.
70* in January is verrry nice...
Cape Coral is mostly retirement area, You need to look in some of the bigger areas like Tampa,Orlando, Daytona etc. I have my own lawncare and landscape buisness and do ok for myself. Theres work here you just have to be resorcefull.
Wiz beat me to it - Cape Coral is known as a place to "retire".
So where was the beach? When I lived in N. Ft. Myers, there was only 2 ways onto Cape Coral and I don't recall a beach.
Did you venture to Ft. Myers Beach or Sanibel Island. If you didn't hit Sanibel, you missed the nude beach.
There's definately plenty of work down here. Problem seems to be finding anyone that actually wants to work. They all want to get paid for watching someone else work.
Carlene- i cant remember the name of the road it was on, but yeah... it was *near* cape coral. its the strip that the "lani kai" hotel is on, junkaroos bar, hooters, you have to take the toll bridge from cape coral actually.
