Hi, I have a 1988 ranger and I left water in it and I was wondering if when the freeze plug pushed out if it cracked the block or damaged anything else? And also I broke the timing belt and was wondering if it is common that I bent a valve?
Its entirely possible for a block to crack due to feezing water and a plug be totally intact, so to answer your question, yes it is possible you have engine damage. Despite their name, freeze plugs arent primarily there to prevent damage from water freezing. They are a consequence of the casting process of the block when it is molded.
Whether or not you have a bent valve depends in part if your engine is a non-interference type. This means even when the valves fully open, the piston will not touch the ends of them even when the piston is at TDC. I dont know what engine you have in your truck but you might want to take a look at a manual to see if it mentions what type you have (inteference or non).
