Well you are gonna need the entire donor vehicle, as the parts are much easier to find when they are right there. I am not totally sure what is all entailed in this swap, but its not easy. First off the the V10 is a long motor, but i don't think you are going to have clearance problems, the engine bay is huge on these trucks.
I am sure that you have noticed that the transimission won't bolt up, and you are going to need motor mounts, and custom crossmembers. Good luck, welcome to FTE!
Thanks Matt for your speedy reply. Do you know anything about the V10? Weve heard its a 325HP..true? What cubes is it? Do you know of any links to go for info? Fuel consumption? We pay $1.00 a liter here in Aus. We can handle the fabrication of crossmembers and engine mounts shaft shortening etc.. I heard there was a CD Rom available with info about the wiring loom etc. Is this true and would you know where I could locate it if so? Thanks.
You won't get any better mileage with the V10, its 6.8L and i think that makes it about 410 cubes.
I really don't know anyone that has attempted this swap, if you do follow through, give us all of your info, I envision this becoming more popular with the abundance of these motors.
I am pretty sure that the V10 makes a healthy 325 horses.
I had a buddy do one of those swaps, while he was a expert at fabricating things, the extra weight wasnt worth the extra cubes, you'd better of selling the V10 and putting the money into the 390, remember Ford made the 390 to really move, while not in stock form, but they were used for alot of racing in the 60's and 70's.... although it does look cool to have that V10 there
It should fit, Ford stuffed one on a 99 Gt Mustang.
The 6.8L V10 has 310HP@4250rpm and 425lb/ft of torque@3250rpm.
It is the same bore and stroke as a 5.4L, it just has 2 more cylinders.
3.55" Bore 4.16" stroke 9.0:1 compression
All of the power accessories will need custom hoses such as the PS and A/C if used.
