Engine Heat light wont turn off

When I popped the hood, it didnt feel that hot. It is obiously malfunctioning or broken. I suspect that it is from me submerging my truck past the tops of the wheel wells (Air intake, custom tranny and differential breathers were all above water though), or the night before, when I was stuck in a field (4x4 auto hubs arent locking, and they are brand new, less than 200 miles) and was continuously running it at high RPM's, but never redlined it, but I did get it hot enough to get gases to blow out of the radiator reserve tank. Where is it and how do I get teh light to turn off, until I can replace it? Also, does this light turn on when the truck is extremely cold?

Check the drivers side of the engine on the front end of the head. You will see two sending units at the end of the wires running down there. One is for the guage the other is for the idiot light. They may have been knocked loose or shorted by the water or mud.

Front end of the head? More likely the water, not too much mud
