Cam position sensor

I have heard people talk about faulty cam position sensors. When they go bad your tach wont move when cranking. This is the way you tell if its bad-- at least thats what I have heard. I own a 2002 F-350 PSD, CC, 4x4 with 26000 miles. The other day I decided to check if my tach moves when cranking. I does not. My truck runs fine and have had no problems with it. Does this mean my cam position sensor is bad? I dont think so........ So why the theroy of bad CPS=no tach reading when cranking. Does this only apply to certain years?

I'm interrested in this also. Going by the tach doesn't move theory, cost me a $100 just to learn the tach doesn't move and the CPS was fine.

I noticed the same thing on my 95. No tach movement while cranking. But cam sensor is fine.

Mine just went out last week.

I had to get towed.

Mine would start, run for 30-40 sec. and die.

Never watched the tach, to pissed to see staight.

they say $200.00 for the dealer or $100.00 to do yourself

My engine has a 100,000 warranty- cost me $100.00 deductible

You will know when your cam position sensor goes out , cause you will go no where, when it dies rpms drop to nada and will not show until you replace it , or it starts in a few minutes or hours.
Iam no expert but just replaced mine via suggestions here.

Hello is the cam position sensor under warranty. Mine is a 2001 with 45,000. The mechanic told me mine is about to go out. He hooked it up to the computer.

Yes, it's covered under warranty but you'll have to pay the deductable.

my truck runs fine, had the CMP(CaM Position sensor, "i guess") replaced a few months ago because the truck would just die. to this day the tach does not move when cranking the motor.
