I have a buddy which might be buying a 351C, i was wonduring is there anything casted into the block to see? What is the stroke? Anything easy which points to a 351 C?
casting numbers are near the starter, prolly hard to see. bore is 4", stroke is 3.5", same as W and M. check for 8 valve cover bolts, this will eliminate W. W's have 6 V/C bolts. the difference between the C and M is easiest to spot where the intake sits compared to the front of the block/timing housing. the C will be almost flush, at the same level. on the M the intake will be a good inch higher than the timing housing of the block. most but not all M's have a raised rib about an inch tall near the distributor. no C ever had the raised rib. the heads should have a number in the top outside corners, 2 or 4. M heads don't have numbers but all are interchangeable. let us know what you find?

ALSO check the bellhousing a 351 c uses a C4 transmission or the smallblock bellhousing and the 351 m uses the bigblock or C6 bellhousing
