Hey all. I have a 351m in a 77 ranger. The carb keeps needing replaced in it.Can anyone tell me why? I run 89 octane in it.Also has been timed twice.I am really thinking of just selling it.I like the truck but don't have time or money for this. If you can give me some idea why the carb keeps going out,I would think about keeping it.This is the 4th carb in 3weeks......
It's a motorcraft 2150.The first couple of times it was the floats, then the accelerator pump. Finally the auto choke quit. All these were reman. You'd think at least one would work.
Never buy a remanufatured carb. You don't know where it was done (China? Laos?) or how long it's been sitting on the shelf since.
Truly, anybody who can turn a screw can rebuild a 2150. Buy yourself a kit and do it right.
You might also consider your source. I find that NAPA is the best place to get parts, reman or otherwise. Some of the other places sell complete junk. I won't mention any nmaes.
it seems like it's not getting enough air to it at times. I opened the choke some and it ran smoother.Coming home from work I floored it. It took off good, but after I let up on the gas it acted up agian.I had to put it in neutreul and rev it up to blow the black smoke out. After that it ran good again.Does anyone know what else I should be looking for?????????????????????????????????
