i am rebuilding/restoring a 79 f150 and i replaced th 300/6 with a 351m i would like to replace the intake and carb with a edelbrock performer. I have talked to the smog people in my area and they tell me it doesnt matterr what you run as long as it passes yhe tailpipe sniffer (idle test only) my question is does it make much difference at idle which manifold you use (EGR OR NON-EGR)as far as the idle test goes ? i have been told that the egr does not come into play at idle and it should not be a problem with yhe non egr intake.thanks for any info.
I have the performer NON Egr on my truck, it failed emissions, but it failed because the carbi was running to rich, i need to either jet it down abit, or try and get past by changing the metering rods, so i was told.
From what I've seen of them, the egr intake has a better carb flange, although you have to use an adapter. I decided to spend the extra money for the better quality.
you were told right the EGR does not do anything @ idle
and your engine will thank you for not putting it back on it puts
hot exhaust gas back into your engine while you are cruising down the road on honda cars most people with certain motors have lots of problems with the egr valve plugging the the intake with all the crap from the exhaust and that is on new cars with very little miles on them
this also takes away from the efficency of the combustion process there is less air in there to burn the fuel
