I'm a newbie so sorry if I sound dumb. I have a 94 explorer which I feel like taking a sledgehammer to it. Anyways, ha!ha! I woul like to pull the error codes and I was wondering if there is any place I can purchase the correct cable to hook up to my laptop. I also need to download the software. Please send any details on how to do this and where I can purchase the cable and software.
Also I was checking to see how many o2 sensors a 94 explorer has? I changed one but I've been seeing that there might be more than one. Please help. Thank You!!!
post your problems....most likely these guys can tell you whats wrong with it without pulling any codes....also i dont think you need anything to pull your codes....search the forum for codes and you will see the posts with links on how to do it......
Your 94 is NOT OBD-II compatible but is an OBD=I (EEC-IV) based system. You can purchase the code readers for around $25 almost everywhere (even Wal_mart). As to how many Oxygen sensors present, depends on the year, and may range from 1 to 4. Get a haynes manual and save yourself a lot of grief. It is inexpensive and answers most of the common questions.
Dialtone
My 87 Ranger has'nt been anything "like a rock" as those hilarious GM adds say, but it has been reliable as a stone. I bought it new & it has 221K on it now. I've only had to use my Actron CP9015 scanner 3 times. Based on the codes that I have pulled with it I have replaced the TFI module (40 bucks at Napa) the throttle position sensor also about 40 bucks at Napa & the Vehicle speed sensor was about 30 bucks at Napa. Add it all up & these 3 repairs have cost me 110 bucks. If I had paid a dealer to make these repairs it probably would have been around 600 bucks. So the 30 bucks that I paid for the Scanner has saved me a LOT of money. These days the CP9015 will probably cost you around 35 bucks at any parts store. As Dialtone sez get the Haynes & a code scanner. For my 87 I also have the XLNT "electrical & vacuum trouble shooting manual" from www.helminc.com. Check out www.actron.com & click on "sunpro" & then "code scanners"
If you go to www.batauto.com and click on codes, there is a picture of where to jumper the wire and procedure to read the codes by flashing the check engine light. Then use that $25 to buy parts you need.
