Radiator Flush

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Jul-02 AT 10:41 PM (EST)]I have about 70K miles on my truck and I was thinking about flushing my radiator. I bought the truck used so I am not sure the last time it was done. I have read about the cooling system cleaners that you can run through the system to remove any scaling and I was thinking about using one of those products. I have also heard that they tend to shorten the life of your water pump dramatically. Have any of you used (or heard) of these products and what are the side effects....if any? Let me know....I am new at the whole truck-owning thing. Thanks -John

Radiator Flush

What condition is the coolant in? If there is any scaling in the block, or the heads and it comes off you run the risk of having a blocked heater core, or even some of the rad tubes. Running chunks of debris through a waterpump is not good either. The shaft seal, and impeller may become damaged. If the coolant is in fairly good condition, just do a simple flush.
And remember...DO NOT add Dex Cool, or any orange coolant to your system.
