" Tire Rub Denial "

I think we need a psychological term for the syndrome where tires only rub occasionally - like " tire rub denial ", or " My lift's too small and so are you. ". Any other ideas?

I get a kick out of all the folks that stuff tires that are too big under their truck and then won't admit to rubbing or say that the tires only rub when they turn left really hard, after 3:00 PM on Tuesdays.

I for a fact know damn well from first hand experience that it takes a good size lift - at least 5 inches to completely clear 35 12.5's on an Excursion much less 37's. Even better - all these guys with no lift mounting 305's and swearing they never rub. Of course they always drive in straight line as well. LOL - what horse crap.

Of course this is the internet where no one lies, embellishes and everyone is an expert.

Spartan;
Could you tell if you like your 4.5" Edge Hanger kit? Did you install it yourself? I am interested in a lift that will allow me to travel on the 1N dirt roads in Southern CA. without the Ex bouncing off the road. I read your post on the radius rods. Do you have them installed with the Edge Kit? I read that they only fit non-lifted Excursions. Thanks.

Yes I put the Edge kit in myself.

I did have someone to help me remove the front and rear lift springs that were on the truck and reinstall the original rear spring packs. He also helped remove and replace the front bumper. If I had known better I would have gotten him to stick around to reinstall the front C code leaves. They are light, but it's really hard to get everything lined up and back together up front. Tip - put the pasenger side u-bolts and spring back on the axle first - then driver's side.

If you don't have to deal with swapping out any springs and you are sticking with single front shocks I would count on eight hours. Add two more hours for dual front shocks - trimming and installation. Someone on the other X board said no way, that they could do it in five hours a while back. Ended up taking them two days I think.

Do not attempt this installation if you do not have jack stands, a couple of three ton jacks and plenty of air tools. I would also not reccomend this for a first time install.

You will have to talk to Landyot on the " other " Excursion forum about the radius rods, but expect to wait in line.

The rear sway bar will take four to five hours by yourself. The radius rods will take about the same, depending on how you go about cutting the " traction bar " leaf.

BigDawg - the people running 37's are putting them under six inch lifts. I beleive that they might fit with a maybe a Skyjacker or Edge six inch lift, but pro comp or others - no way.

My 35's barely clear on the Edge 4.5" system and that's with bumper shimming on my truck. The lower plastic factory valance is gone period in this set up.

I am not familiar with all the different offerings available from the various lift kit manufacturers. I know many include new leaf springs with their kits. However, if one retains the original Ford leaf springs ... or even swaps-out & installs F350 springs ... the radius-rods will fit.

Yo Landyot, what's up? You still chasing ski bunnies or back at work? These guys want your rad rods bad and I don't blame them for one moment.

I did a little detour around some backed up traffic today through a construction site at around 45MPH and got zero wheel hop from the rear end, where it used to shake the snot out of me and the truck on the same little piece of ground with spring lifts.

I love you man - well just figuratively you know. Thanks again for everything!

Dave

Went skiing a week ago. Naw ... don't bother chasing the ski bunnies. Besides, whenever you do catch one, you learn they live just as far away from the resort ... and usually in the opposite direction!!! I just ski for the fun of it ... no time to lay around the lodge ... gotta' hit the slopes.

Picked up more oxygen, acetylene, Argon bottles today, and been welding all evening.

Also ordered one of those Ruger 50th Anniversary Single-Six models today ... just to go along with my 50th Anniv. MKII model. They'll both stay NIB. What was the 3rd model Ruger produced? (I apologize for getting off topic.)

Guns and trucks go together. They do south of the Mason Dixon anyway. Otherwise ya'll just don't know better. LOL

Production models in order:

Ruger MKI
Ruger Single Six
Ruger Blackhawk
Ruger Bearcat
.44 Magnum Semi Carbine
Ruger 10-22 1964
Then the rest of the stuff...

While the guns are great, I'm not a big Bill Ruger fan. He testified in front of a senate subcommittee back in 1993, before he croaked, that no United States citizen needed a magazine that would hold more than 10 rounds. Maybe he was banging Hillary or Chelsea - I don't know. Maybe Bill was banging him. And this with the fact that he got his start and sold his first gun design for a full auto machine gun to Auto Ordnance prior to starting Sturm Ruger. What was the cause for Sturm's untimely death in 1951 after he put up $50,000 to start the company?
