Post Dual shocks v.s. Single shocks ?

Some local lift shops have been telling me there is no difference in ride with the dual shocks v.s. single shocks. Some have told me your in for a stiffer ride with the duals. Can someone explain the difference in ride? I'm planing on going with a 5.5" Fabtech lift for my '02 F350 CC, LB, 4X4, V10. Also will be using it for mostly street use. Your input appreciated.

Dual shocks v.s. Single shocks ?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jul-02 AT 02:30 PM (EST)]If you run two of the same shocks you presently have on your truck you will simply get stiffer ride, your compression dampening will be increased as well as the effective rebound dampening. Increasing dampening slows the rate the shock(s) compress or rebound.

If you wanted a similar ride but wanted the prerunner look, then you would want adjustable shocks or shocks with softer dampening setting.

Why would you want to run two shocks? Well mostly to distribute the heat over the additional boingers. As the shocks oils heat up the dampening goes down which changes the ride overtime. More shocks the less work each one will be doing. If you are racing then there is great benefit to running 2/3 or more shocks. You can also set up additional shocks to be stiffer/softer so you can swap out shocks (or just one at a time) as a race course changes to get a different ride and get better traction.

There might be other reasons, and I would like to hear them, but this is my experience.

In off road racing it isn't horsepower that wins, it is getting traction and keeping it!

Well, let me answer for the "streeters" and light off roaders.
They look cool as hell!!
What I did was run a light super lift shock with a stiffer skyjacker nitro, the affect was just a tad stiffer than stock but still rides nice on the street.

yeah..... sure yeti, we all know what possesed you to go with duals up front and the quad setup in the rear...

on to a more serious note..... duals up front will stiffen the ride and it could be considerable depending on shock brand.

my suggestion is if you like the look (i think they look pretty cool with duals, especially the racing types), get a set and hollow one.... make it look like a working shock for the looks.

duals especially with that lift, the front on mine made a huge difference with dual RS9000s allows me to adjust if needed due to winch and heavy front bumper.
