Why does my Explorer rev up so high??

I have this problem with my 91 Explorer, in that every time I drive it more than just a short bit, the rpm's go really high and will not come down until I shut it off. If I restart it, it is fine.

I just got off the highway after about an hour drive, and when I got home and put it in park, it revved up to almost 3000rpm, and would not come down?

Thanks fo any input.

Next time it idles high, remove the two wire electrical connector to the IAC on the throttle body. The rpm should drop down to the point the engine barely runs. If it doean't then there is a vacuum leak or sticking throttle. If the rpm drops, this is an electrical problem. Some have mentioned this was a problem with the coolant sensor or the throttle position sensor. For emissions reasons, the computer doesn't allow the throttle to close fully in rapid deacceleration and it opens the IAC.
