Tailgate Rusting
I was over my buddies house yesterday, We were removing cinder blocks from his 2001 SD and we both noticed that the inside seam on the bottom edge of the tailgate was starting to rust. He ran his finger nail across the paint bubbles and was quite surprised when all that rust showed up under the paint. The truck is only 15 month's old and it shouldn't be rusting already. Has anyone experienced similar problems with premature rust? I've heard a rumor from a coworker that Ford is aware of the problem, which also includes the doors, starting with the 1999 model. He said Ford will pay for some of the work to be done but not all.

yes- i have the same problem on my 99f-250, I was pretty torked about it, it's bs that you buy a $30,000+ vehicle and the thing starts to rust for no reason- mines garage kept and rarely sees the snow! I took the tailgate off and used my grinder as well as sandpaper to clean it up before it got to the side everyone can see. I then put a chemicalrust conerter on it and painted and primed it with a rustoleum. the only way you notice what ive done is to look closely at the lip of the tailgate- which i know of no one who does- i checked my doors out when i noticed the tailgate- but so far ive not noticed anything there- gl with yours!
