Just bought a new 4.0 engine for my wife's 97 Aerostar AWD-(had little or no compression in one cylinder in the old one) and am getting prices on installation. The lowest so far is at the local dealer-$900. The highest was an engine shop for $1250,they didnt sell me the engine so I guess they wanted to make up the profit on the install. Does $900 seem fair considering its an Aerostar and you have to pop the engine in through the nose?Would appreciate your opinions-thanks...by the way bought the new engine for $1599 off Ebay complete with Motorcraft plugs and wires-only thing that has to be changed is the driver's side exhaust manifold-the EGR setup is for the explorers and the tube from it would prohibit changing the rear plug(driver's side)in the vehicle so I am having them use my Aerostar exhaaust manifold and EGR valve.
That sure seems like a good price, if they do good work. The local dealer quoted me almost $1400 (17 hours at $80/hour). The price you paid for the engine is cheap, especially considering the fact that a new set of roller lifters is nearly half of what you paid ($700).
I was watching that same auction on eBay and also thought you got a great deal on the engine. Boy, was I tempted to bid on that. The $900 install price seems reasonable, seeing as how my Ford dealer wanted $600 just to pull the transmission and replace a rear main seal.
Keep us updated.

What I would make sure and find out......Also get it in writing is.
Is the $900.00 just for taking out the old engine and putting in the new one
Or
Is it for taking out the old putting in the new and making it run.
There is a differant and you want to make sure. Also he probably won't guarantee the the running of the engine because hes not suppling it.
So that might be a couple of hundred more for that.
Aero-I would contact the seller michiganmotorz directly as I think he has just a couple engines left-thats what I did-didnt want to play around with the auction.will keep you posted as to the engine install-
