'90 Computer box lower driver's side?

There is some type of metal box behind the Emergency brake foot pedal in the corner. Looks like something is supposed to be plugged into the front but nothing is plugged into it on mine, or do wires plug into the back of it or something?

Reason I ask is I'd like to remove it if not... takes up about 10"x8" of space if not more. It's bolted to the corner down there.

The previous owner did A LOT of modification to this truck... aftermarket chip (not sure where it is though), MDS ignition, etc. so is it possible they bipassed this box and replaced its function with an aftermarket part?

On my 89, that is your computer and the after market chip plugs into the box closest to your seat. I had a chip in mine but really didn't see what if any differences other than having to burn better grade of gas.
