You have a valid point no doubt, however there is no way a prefilter IMO could create as much restriction as the stock airbox with its 3 inch or whatever opening. The people who make the prefilter claim it produces no more than 1% airflow loss. How "real" or accurate that claim is I do not know. One thing for sure, it keeps my K&N in brandy new condition. Others have said that hot air from the engine compartment can cause loss of power, I have not found this to be the case.
I think the truth of the matter is no matter what you do or DO NOT do to your air intake system, little performance gains will be felt when the rest of the truck is more or less stock. I did notice improved throttle response, but that could just be my imagination due to the sound of air wooshing in.
Of course, there isnt to much difference between my opinion and a bunch of HOT AIR.
