Hey folks,
I am looking at buying a Bronco for a daily driver. It will be 95% street use. I want to know what you think for motor and WHY? Think about it in regards of the daily driver.... reliability, fuel, ease of repairs. Tell me what you think I should get.
Thanks all.
I drive a 5.8 351w 1994 Bronc aroung as my street car and i love it. I will let you know that they do eat gas, but if i am careful, i can make a 45.00 tank last about a week. Anyways i love my 351, if you dont care about gas, plus you get MORE POWER
yeah gas isn't too bad if u r easy on it. i get about 140 miles on a quarter tank of gas, i have the 5.8L 351W in my '93 bronco. of course, the kand n filter does help w/ gas. a buddy of mine always talked about how slow his 302 was (95 eb) but there are ways to make them just as good as 351 engine. -wb
the Bronco is with out a doubt a awesome vehicle, but your looking at 11-13 mpg regardless on average, either engine is excelent in its own rite. I have long experince with both, however the 351 does have more stroke, therefore more tork, and the 351 are nortorious for there bulit proof bottom ends. hope this helps. DW
heres the thing a stock 302 and 351w dont have that much of a difference. i have owned both in top condition anda stock 351w does have more power but not much. depending on condition of the two engines you can close to the same gas milage out of either one. if you want power start looking into 351m or 351c and if you want to suck a WHOLE lotta gas just say the hell with it and go with the 460.

I have a 302 in mine. I run 33" tires with a 4" lift and it will move fairly good. The only mods I've made to the engine are a set of headers and a K&N Air Filter.
351W is nice for a few reasons, some of which have already been mentioned. My opinion - it's kinda like a Chevy 350 - lots of parts out there. Junkyards of full of 'em, aftermarket is full of parts too. And relatively cheap! I'm not saying it isn't true of the 302. I don't have one, so I can't comment on it. When I had my 351W rebuilt, it didn't cost me anything extra to have it built up a bit. Nothing too radical, but the shop had the parts and didn't charge me anything extra.
I have a 96 EB Bronc with the 302 and I cannot complain. I get decent milage (comparable to my girlfriends 4Runner with the 3.0 V6) and plenty of pull for my utility trailer and the boat. Parts are just as common and cheaper than the parts for my Dodge 318 V8 in my Dakota. I use my trucks on the farm and the Dodge and the Ford do fine. I use the Dakota for the crap work (mainly because it is a pickup) and the Ford for the the other stuff. I agree that the 351 will have more *** but it just depends on what is asked of it as to what it will do. Daily driver...I would go with the 302, they don't put 351's in Mustangs ya' know! I know I just opened up a can of worms so lets hear it--LOL!
