college class

I am taking an environmental science course and wanted your input as long as you don't think I have lost my head! The question do you think it is ok, a waste of water, or do you do this: leaving water running constantly when washing dishes or brushing your teeth. Thanks for your help.

Haha........for some reason when I brush my teeth, I turn the water on and off 3 times.......don't ask me why. I do know the farmers around here use 85% of the water. Plus LA is hijacking some of our water by some devious means.

I don't see a problem...
Long as they don't start dissing diesels;')

Just ask them about the global warming theory while it's well below zero here in New England.
Actually.....gobal freezing has much more factual merit than warming. (serious)

Now if you asked about a liberal arts class ...;')

Also, to get a barrel of oil out of the ground also produces 6 barrels of water. It is separated from the oil, treated, and sold to the farmers.

I live in the 2nd driest state in the nation and ever since I was a kid I was told to turn off the water while I was brushing my teeth. Living in the desert will make you do strange things.

It's a waste of water. Every drop of water that runs through your pipes has to be treated at the water district. That entails filtering and adding chemicals to sterilize the water so it's fit for consumption. The less you use, the less has to be treated in the sewer station.

An aircraft carrier- of the nuclear variety- can make 300,000 gallons of water per day. It takes about 400 gallons to launch an a/c, and another 250 or so to recover it. We launch and recover about 100 a/c per day- not counting the helos. It takes water to cook, do laundry, cool the ship and for the crew to drink. That is not accounting for showering- thus we take "navy showers." (1. turn on water. 2. wet yourself down 3. turn water off 4. soap up- top to bottom including your hair 5. turn water on and 6. rinse off)
Therefore, If you run the water while you brush your teeth, or while you shave, somebody is going to read you the riot act.

If we run short of water, we don't stop flying- we stop getting fresh water to shower with until the supply builds back up!

I usually brush my teeth when I'm in the shower. But when I do brush them at the sink, I turn the water off after wetting the toothbrush. Habit my father ingrained into me.

what about doing small loads of laundry without properly setting the water level. This adds up just like brushing teeth

I live in the country, thus i have well water. I leave the water running while brushing my teeth. To me that is no different than talking a good long shower.
