When picking gear ratio's for your new truck, how should you decide what best suits you. I've always used the 3.73 limited slip because I did snow removal with my 2 350's, and the dealer said that would be the best. I'm in the process of buying a new one for more "personal use" and was wondering if I should change. Per say if I was going to do more highway driving?
Johnny 99,
I would go with the 3:73's if you are going to do alot of hwy driving however, if you plan on towing a lot go with the lower gears. What are looking for a PSD or gasser, getting lift kit in the future, upgrading to bigger tires these are a few of the factors that you may consider when choosing your gear ratio. I'm sure some of SD gurus will be in shortly to offer some more insight. Just my $.02.
I'd definately go with 4.10 gears if you are going to put larger tires. The ratio will drop back to around 3.73 if you'd put 35s; perfect for highway and around town. Having 3.73 myself, putting 35s on would give about a 3.5 ratio, way to low if you tow, imo. One reason I still run stocks.
