2000 F 350 SC 85,000 miles and there is a sound that's coming from the rear of the truck. It sounds like two pieces of metal rubbing against each other. It's not a squeaking sound just a dull rubbing sound. It's not the rear brakes cause the sound doesn't change when I step on the brake pedal. The truck rolls fine whatever is causing the sound doesn't seem to be slowing the truck down. I can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?
Everything looks dry. I'll check the u joints. But I couldn't get under the truck right now if I tried, it's too cold. If I did get under there I'd probably freeze to the ground. It's 5 below now. I don't know what the wind chill is now but they expect windchills to be 30 - 40 below tonight. Yikes. If it warms up to 20 above over the weekend I'll snoop around some.
maybe it's just too cold for your axles. Theyve froze!
But Seriously-
Is this rubbing or grinding sound something that you hear, or is it more of a grinding that you can feel thru the seat and steering wheel?
