SOME 2003 EXCURSION AND SUPER DUTY F-SERIES EQUIPPED WITH A 6.0L DIT MAY EXHIBIT A MOAN/DRONE NOISE AND TACTILE VIBRATION BETWEEN 1500-2000 RPM DUE TO TURBOCHARGER MOUNTING COMPONENTS RESONATING AT THE ENGINE FIRING FREQUENCY. ENGINEERING IS INVESTIGATING POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. THERE IS NO SERVICE PROCEDURE AVAILABLE FOR THIS CONDITION AT THIS TIME. NO SERVICE ACTION SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED.
I for sure am not familiar with what a drone sounds like. I must have missed that movie. Maybe when we post on here we could give a quick (what it sounds like) with all these tech words. As I am not to bright with these choice of words.
I just drive em I don't work on em.
I did have the recall done and I DEFINATLY lost power when hitting the fuel peddle. 1/14. The rpm gauge goes up ,but the truck doesn't want to move like it did.
It was a little rocket before this reflash was done. It also has a whistle sound on accelleration that it did not have before.
On the way to the dealer I was was going 65mph and rpm was at 1900 and when I drove home at 65mph it was 2200. So that went up.
Much smoother starting though as it doesn't rev so high anymore.alot less smoke on cold start

This is most likely one of the reason why there are reports of fuel economy decreasing with the new flash.
That is for sure..This is my 6'th new Ford. Always something wrong with them. At least Ford is not alone since my friends have other makes and they have their problems as well.
Imagine if you could spend 30k plus and have it run right??
While riding down the road with my 14 year old son and two of his buddys, one asked, why does your truck sound like a bumble bee? Thats what the "Droan" is.
I first noticed the drone while driving at 60 MPH. I had the cruise control set. As I started up a slight incline, the control added a little throttle to maintain speed. The tach was just a hair below the mark I would describe as 1775rpm. I heard a distinct loud low to medium frequency hummmmmmmmmm. If I let off throttle it goes away. Add more throttle it goes away. It is a very narrow band of RPM. Go out where you have some wide open road and play with it. After I tuned in on it, I began to notice it in the lower gears but usually I am accelerating through the range so it wasn't as noticable.
When I took it in for service, they gave me the same info that emtabmm posted and said there is no fix for it yet. That was in September. I took it in for the latest flash in December. I mentioned it again and the service writer said it was "normal". I called BS on that and she said there was still no fix for it.
I imagine if you ran at consistently in the Hum range something would break. That much vibration can't be good. I hope it breaks before 100,000 miles.
