Just recieved my F350 and love it have a question about fuel computer in overhead console?? It doesnt tell me how many miles I have left on the tank of gas!! Read owners manual and states it takes average of 500 miles and computes !! Does this mean that I need 500 miles on the truck for it to work? I have 100 miles on it right now. Does anyone know if this is normal ?? Or is there a problem? Thanks
Whatever you do, don't believe the overhead...
it is just a VERY ROUGH estimate ---
but it should have a miles too empty and an avg mpg settting...
and if you do the old hand calc method you will see the OH is not trustworthy...
No you don't have to wait 500 miles. The computer should work right off the bat.
You need to use the buttons to scroll thru the different readings.
Button on the driver side scrolls thru the different readings - i.e. temp, averge MPG, miles remaining. Button on the passenger side chages the reading from SAE/US to Metric.
It may take a tank of fuel or so for the computor to achieve an average to be able to report. Yea, it is kind of strange isn't it that the overhead is always reporting better fuel mileage than you are actually getting ..... I wonder if this may have been done intentionally? ... false advertising for sure ...
I just got back from a 900 mile business trip and here are my mileage findings since getting latest flash. Just did 15,000 mile service at 12,300 (last week).
1) Had December (or maybe Jan) reflash - not sure which yet (done last week).
2) Highway mileage was 17MPG (cruising at 70MPH). Vehicle was empty and towing nothing.
3) Hand computed mileage was within .5/mile (so it was the same as overhead console). Guess I'm lucky to have one that works???
4) Running #2 diesel with Power Service anti-gel (white bottle) for winter.
My Fuel computor has no display any longer. Always blank now. I have found nothing in the Manuals ( that I can find) shows any fuse or relay for it.
Any Ideas/pointers/outright help.
I'm not checking with my local dealer after 3 mis-repairs and services. =(
I instaaled it myself. Pretty easy. The cosole cover pulls down. It is held in place by clips and three screws hold the "computer". Uplug and put the replacement in. I do not rember what it cost at the dealer.
My computer on my truck is actually really close to my hand calulations. Its usually only off by about a 10th or so, which I think is extremely close since I run an economy tune all the time.
