Nv4500

Is it possible to install a NV4500 (dodge) 5 speed into my truck with a 390FE? This is one of the best transmissions ever built...and has the perfect gearing.

Any comments...or suggestions...they are welcome.

Thanks.

hey there,
Yes, use chevy 2wd NV4500 with dodge V8 input shaft, advance adapters adapter plate and pilot bushing. I believe dodge 2wd trans has much longer tailshaft and won't work. OR... Go mated T-case with a dodge 4x4 NV4500 mated to a ford 205 case using dodge 205 input gears and coupler from np205 mated to a getrag or NV4500 trans. Chev 2wd NV is about 10" longer than 435 4 speed. You get to keep all your stock bellhousing and clutch stuff. I'm doing this to my truck.

That is great news! I would prefer to use the Dodge nv4500, because all gears (including reverse) have syncro's.

Yes. It will get mated to a NP205 (stock t-case on the truck)...but you providing the necessary input gears and coupler are exactly what I was hoping to find out. What is a getrag? If at all possible...I'll just use the nv4500 trans that were mated to the dodge 205 input gears and coupler.

I'm going with a centerforce II or III clutch...might as well handle the load better too.

I know some drive shaft work will be necessary...but I think it would be well work it.

Hey there,
The dodge synchro reverse is something I'm willing to live without since I've driven both cummins dodges with an NV and chevy's with the NV and noticed no difference the way I drive. I don't often try to put it in reverse while still rolling forward. The Getrag was a german made piece of crap 5 speed dodge used before the NV4500(pre-93), but they used the same size and spline output shaft. Go with the dual friction centerforce. That's the only one worth anything. The other ones aren't any better than a stock clutch. I'm running a centerforce in my truck and love it. It's ungodly smooth but won't ever slip. I have a dodge NV4500 np205. Thought going with the mated 205 was the only way to put the NV in my truck, but then found out chev 2wd NV's are shorter and will work fine. If interested in everything to mount NV to 205 or the whole T-case, ping me off list.

Very interested...but do not know who to use the email system here. Guess, because I have never been asked...haha.

That would be great...if you can provide the info.

Thanks!
