I have a 51 F-1 that is not stock. However presently only sits about 2" lower than factoy. I am looking at putting 18" rims on it and was wondering if anyone out there has this size or bigger on theirs. Or am I just asking for headaches?
Whistler,
I tried jarring similar info out of local tire/wheel shops by calling them and asking. EVERY one of them said it'd be best to go down and do a test fit on the wheel with the tire size you want on the actual vehicle. Not the answer I wanted, but it DOES make the most sense. Let them SEE your hub, fender clearances, etc and a good shop can usually eyeball it and tell you what will fit. They may charge you for the mount, but it's a small price to pay to insure they'll fit and look how you want them to. You MAY be able to talk them out of the cost of the test-fit if you buy the whole set from them. Bounce that off them...
I haven't done it yet myself because I've had other expenses and my rubber is still good, but when it comes time....
There is a 56 on the cover of this months Classic Truck mag. It has I believe 17s on the front and 18 or 19s on the rear. Check it out. Maybe the builder listed will tell you about potential problems and pitfalls. John
