Bell housing question

Hello,
My 55 F 100 has the original 239 Y-block and 3 spd standard transmission. Will the bell housing, clutch, shift linkage, etc. from my truck fit a 53 manual 3 spd overdrive transmission? Is there going to be a lot of parts chasing that I am going to have to do in order to get it to work?

If your questions is in simple terms: Can I put a 53 OD tranny on my Y block? the answer is yes.

It's my understanding that the only problem with these older OD's is finding the solinoid. I'm not sure exlactly what it does, but if you find one let me (us) know. I have a friend that has a 50 Merc with the remenants of a flathead and an OD that he will give me if I want it.

Hey Glenn,
The solenoid is the electric switch that engage the overdrive gear set. I have found a source for parts for these things. Jerry Turner Auto Salvage in Fresno, California. His phone number is 559-237-0918. He will have the parts that you need.
