Won't start :-(
Man, the last two night have not been very lucky for me. Last night i went to start my truck and come to find out i left the ignition turned on and the battery was too low to start it so i had to get a jump. Tonight was worse. I went to start it and it cranked up for a split second then it cut off. I kept trying to crank it and the starter would turn over fine but it just wouldn't fire. I'm gonna check the fuel pump fuse tomorrow, but is there anything else that i can check to see whats causing the problem?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Press and hold down the accelerator slightly while cranking the engine. If it starts, release the pedal. If it stalls, or idles in a very erratic manner, the problem is probably a bad Idle Air Control valve, a.k.a. "IAC". The long-term cure is replacement of the part. The dealer will charge about $200 - $250 for parts and labor. The part costs about half that price. It can be replaced by a DIY'er with light mechanical skills.
I went to go try and crank it this morning and it still wouldn't turn over. So i left to go get my other truck and when i got back i realized i left the key on again!! I went to press the fuel reset switch but it hadn't popped out. So i brought out the cables and hooked them up and presto, its started right up, but now the Service Engine Light is on. I'm gonna ride on it a few days (if possible) to see if the computer resets itself or something. Does anybody have any idea why the Service Engine light is on?? Thanks.
