Angry Is your door cracked?

Hi all,
I have a 1997 f 150
And on the drivers door, on the lower right side(from the outside) of the window, where the 2 peices of rubber trim on the window meet, there is a small crack in the metal. I heard it was some kind of stamping issue on the '97's.
Just wondered if anyone else has it, and if Ford will fix it?

Thanks,
Brian

Is your door cracked?

Hummmm.....my sister's truck isnt like that....hell take it to the dealer to see if they will fix it. There might even be a recall on it. Look here: www.alldata.com

Yep..... http://www.alldata.com/TSB/20/972016BX.html #29...of course that is only a bulletin and the dealer is not required to fix them.

Smile Is your door cracked?

Iíve heard a lot of people having this problem but my 99 doesnít have that problem or at least not yet. I didnít pay attention if there were certain years involved. I would do the old search thing.

Wow, I've never heard of this. I have a 97 and my brother has a 97 and neither of us have the problem.

Is your door cracked?

When I bought my 97, 2 yrs ago, I noticed a crack. Actually a chip of paint missing at that location. I had Ford fix it for me, but I was told it happens to all of the newer body styles. Caused by slamming the door and/or the window moving up and down. Also, it will eventually happen on the passenger side. There is a fix offered by Ford but not permenant. It is a bar that gets welded at the weak point, causing the weak point to be moved further up the bar by the window. The new trucks are being sold with this fix. I had the door skin replaced and painted. Also, I don't allow anyone to slam the doors.

Actually, the crack is caused by trapped air inside the cab when the doors are closed, the sudden pressurization will over time crack the door skin. 97s and 98s have this problem, they got rid of it by installing relief vents in the back of the cab on the 99-up models. Apparantly the Fords are to air tight at least it dont leak.

Hmm..perhaps it still happens, but not to the degree it used to, from what I seen it was one in say 3 or 4 97/8 trucks got the cracks.....

I,ve seen it on 97,98,98,00.The fix is that they put on a new door skin, and the one's I've seen you can tell they've been painted.Mine is cracked(98 F-150)but it's small and it hasen't got bigger,so I'm leaving it alone.

My 99 cracked on both doors. Lucky I found them while under warranty. Dealer installed stiffiners and repaired skins. Friend of mine has a 98. Both of his doors are cracked.
