try this one guys, driving down the road running on the front tank and truck begins to die.switch to rear tank and truck runs fine.let it run for a few minutes on the rear tank then switch it back to front tank and truck runs fine!?maybe small air leak or problem in tank switching valve?dont think its the filter, besides just changed it.this has not been a huge problem just happened a couple of times.once warm weather and once today -20c.always buy fuel from a very busy mobil truck stop with fresh fuel also.
Did you pay attention to the grade of the road? The front tank is so long that on a steep down or up hill (worse on down) it will not suck fuel.
I have another house I store tools in 1/2 block from my house. My truck runs out of fuel at 3/8 tank (level reading) when I stop there to load tools facing down the hill.
Another common prob on these trucks is, the bottom of the fuel pick up tube breaking off in the tank. It'll run outta fuel while the gauge still reads about 1/4-1/2 tank.
So something in the tank sucked up on the inlet. When you switched tanks it droped off. Mine has a filter of sorts on the pickup tube that could be blocked by dirt particles. Get a new sending unit/pick up tube and gasket. Run the tank empty as it will go and install the new sending unit. While you are doing that you can drain the strange objects and dirt out of the tank.
I did both tanks when I scored my "BlueBeast"
found the front to be a plasticz(poly)tank unheard of at my Ontario Ford dealers.
That pick-up had rotted right off on the suction side outside the tank(design flaw) holds salt
The rear tank was close to same(yet ran) & leaking.Lock ring almost gone from corrosion.
Fresh pickups, good rear tank & rubbber lines she's high & flying in this bitter cold snap in Ont.
Still workin on that tstat to get my furnace back.
Thanx for the info Fbudz!
Steel lines are a Waste of my time.
yeah you guys are probably right had to put the rear tank in new sortly after i bought her.put the sender and pickup in new also.mine has a plastic in the front also.but should have a filter like dave says, but maybe somone blew back thru the tank and blew it off? hey dave hows the snow bussiness?were back on track here, just a snowing and blowin!
Man we are getting ripped on the snow so far this year. I think three inches first time in Dec. three inches again in Dec. Then 2 inches last week. Our snow is all going to the north and the south. We were supposed to get 3 - 6 night before last....just a dusting. Right now it is so cold that if it did snow it would all blow away with all the wind. We are down for an ice storm to move in tomorrow morning.
man ice storms are bad news,be safe.were starting to get some good sized banks pushed up here.plowed from 530 to 800 this morning and then pulled her into works HEATED SHOP and replaced the batts, rpm sensor and did some other basic mant.stuff.also replaced rear bumper(its a long story from a cold, blowin morning) a let her thaw out some.looks like a pretty good day here, might even get the rancher out and play a little bit!
Yeah, I bet it is a good story though, how is the light post? We are having a regular heat wave, clear up to 26 outside right now.
Had a little sleet/snow this morning, nothing now.
Last winter we had a 28+ inch snow fall on about 1/2" of ice. After three days of around the clock plowing at the mall, one of the other guys pulled up to BS a minute. He asked how I was feeling and my reply was " Well I am doin fine, but that guy that keeps pushing that porta potty out behind me has got to go." Every time I went to back up as I turned my head to look in the right mirror I caught a glimpse of my Mini Meyers salt box in the inside mirror. Slammed the brakes so many times it was not funny so I would not hit the porta potty. Ya do funny things when you get tired. I get a chuckle out of that every time I think about it now, but I was almost ready to come home and unload it that night. One of the pictures in my gallery was taken while we were walking around stretching our legs looking at the porta potty.
