How many of ya'll are using remote starters w/keyless entry. I got a Cheeta remote starter w/keyless entry and I'm having a hard time finding anyone to install it. Most say they only install what they sell, or they won't because it is a cheaper starter. I'd do it but without a garage it isn't the time of year to be leaving the truck door hanging open. Anyone using a cheetah starter? Should I send it back for one sold locally? Thanks!
I bought my wife one for christmas, $240 installed for an ultrastart w/ 2 1000" remotes.......works well it isnt easy to installon later model cars with anti theft keys, the module to make it work without key in ignition of rour 2000 GM wreck was $70, the starter unit was $170
I think it would be much easier to install on a 79 since its maybe only 10 wires at most, you dont have power door locks tho do you? if not no keyless entry, unless it comes with universal door lock actuator, also whats your plan of starting this carbed truck on cold mornings ? does it start without a pump or choke ? possibly have a manual choke ? or is it not even on the 79 ?
I cant believe people are turning you away, are you going to mom and pop shops ? those will be the ones that will install it, around here atleast long as you got cash in tow, best lie or circuit city wont touch it im sure.
I prefer local mom and pop retail compared to bix box places and always try to trade there first
I got one, i had manual door locks, i bought the door lock actuators, the door lock modual, and the remote starter with 2 remotes that start from a long ways away let me tell you..... only cost me 119$ too, i installed it on my truck myself, I'd say the biggest PITA of the whole thing was finding where the wires were, then it was usually getting your hands in that little spot you find the wire (ranger). Otherwise piece of cake. Helps when done in a warm garage too!
I got one for my brother from Circuit City. I installed it in about 3 hours and it works great. I'd get one myself if I wasn't so hooked on a manual tranny.
I just got one for christmas and installed it on our 97 chrysler concorde, its a design tech deluxe car starter and has keyless entry, trunk, dome lamps, horn, headlights and of course the starter all wired in. It also has alarm features and a 1000' range! It was deffinitly a chore!! I tore out the whole dash including vents, temp controls, sterio, everything had to come out to get to the necessary wires. If you're mechanically and electrically inclined I'd say go for it. Make sure to use a digital voltmeter to help you ID the right wires though too. In the end though everything got put back where it should go and it works great!! Check your manufacturers website for wire colors and locations specific to your vehicles if they publish that or any other helpful tips. Out in North Dakota its deffinitly nice to start the car from inside when its -25 deg F. outside! Good luck with your project anyway!

The one is going on a 97 F250 Powerstroke, and the other on a 99 Grand Prix GT. So I've got the security bypass to hook up on the 99. I not sure I run my 79 enuf to warrant a remote start That and being carburated
I can tell you this, the shop that did mine said most places around town wont make you buy the pass key disabling module for $70 and will simply tell you to bring 2 keys, they dissaseble the steering column and put one of the keys in there, and put it all back together........they feel thats a security risk and use the modules
Im fine with it and didnt mind buying the module, I think the replacement key is $30 anyway, so i dunno about your GP but maybe you could do that, they said it was an octopus of wires down there and I believe it, mine has 6 honk/light flash locating feature, engine kill if brake depressed without key in ignition, turns on parking and tail lights during day, all lights at night (which i think is just the autolamp doing its thing), engine kill when opening hood without key in, 15 min additioonal run time for each time you depress the start button, and the lock unlock buttons so it replaces the entire factory fob
And i for sure know 2 carbed fords that start chokeless/pumpless on even the coldest mornings, i would be curious how it would work on them cars
I had one installed on the Escape for around $240 for my wife for Christmas. With the PATs system there are so many things that you have to wire that I would not want to takle the project. I would love to have one on my Matrix, but the manual gets in the way plus Toyota put a special module under the clutch that needs to be bypassed for it to start. I have not found one that will work in the Matrix.
