84 tailgate replacement

The tailgate on my 84 is in terrible shape. I've found a new shell at a fair price but it doesn't include the latch assy.

My question is: What are the steps to remove and replace the latch assy? Any recommendations appreciated.

Its not hard, take off the outside catch assy. pop off the rods and then the hand lever replace in reverse.

remove the bolts that hold the latch in pop off the clips pull the outer latches put into the new one

Thanks! The latch assy on the old tailgate is rusted. I'm having a problem locating someone that sells the latch assy. Anyone know where to get a new one?

If your talking about the handle used for opening I just bought a new chrome one on e-bay under $20
