Hi, I 'm working on a 90' F-150 reg cab and wanted any ideas on a new system for it. I did the truck over( moter, trans and exhaust) . The truck was a base XL shrt bx that came w a am/fm radio. If I go w a bigger system, other then the components for the system should I replace any thing else?
caps are actually useful, even if you run 2 batteries. they keep the voltage up and stored for big bass hits. if you are running less than 500 watts i wouldn't worry about it though. what are you planning on putting in there?
I ran caps in my 95 Bronco, I had Two 200 Amp alternators on the Bronco(one where the smog pump lived that was dedicated to the stereo system) and two Stinger 1000 amp batteries (in the back, just for the stereo also) and two 1 farad caps, I've ran systems both ways butprefer it with the caps. They can add a little extra for keeping your base tight.
How big is the system you are planning to put in? I have ~1700 watts rms, and don't have any electrical problems. Wait until you're done installing everything before you go off and buy a second batter, alt., cap(s), etc. Upgrade the Big 3 under the hood, buy/install all your equipment, and then worry about any problems you might have.
