Getting ready to order my engine kit the casting numbers are e4ae. the question I have is. The place I'm getting my kit from says 1984-12/10/1984 then jumps to 1985-5/29/87 I think the junk yard said it came from a 1985 van and I know the e4ae was used for more than one year they said the timing kit for each has different part numbers they are both double rollers so which one do I need? Also what makes me think that it is a 85 is the heads e5ae from 1985 ho.
Any help will be great.
The only difference that I can think of will be the advance or retarding of the cam by the timing chain. Buy the one for the motor that has the higher HP rating or buy the set for the year truck/car you will be installing it in.
If one has a carb and the other is EFI there may be a difference there because of the fule pump eccentric.
Well my project stopped. Wife called me at work and told me someone traded in a 88 bronco much nicer than the one I was fixing. So I'm selling my project to a friend. Will try to post pics. Does anyone need a 351w block fresh from the machine shop?

Well if you want an opinion, , I see the 88 has a 5.0. As a thought, keep the 351 block, slowly build up the shortblock, find a 5.8 upper and lower, then take that 5.0 out and replace it with the 5.8. Open the head bolts on the 5.0 up to 1/2" to put them on the 351 motor, swap over all the efi crap, then you have more torque and hp. Thats what I would recommend since you already have the 5.8 (351) block. Good luck with what ever you decide, later
