shocks, leveling kit

I have a 2001 f-250 supercab v10 4x4 automatic. I want to get a front end leveling kit that raises the front end 2 ½”. I am not sure what brand to go with as far as the leveling kit goes. For the shocks I am deciding between rancho’s new rs9000x with 9 adjustable settings, procomp’s mx6 with 6 adjustable settings, and bilstein shocks which are suppost to self adjust. Which shocks should I choose and what brand leaf spring should I get to raise the front end 2 ½”? Thanks for all your help.

Jalawso, if you want the best possible ride quality and construction go with a 3" Edge kit by Donahoe Racing. The kit utilizes bombproof spring hangers and shackles, and includes custom valved Bilstein 5100 shocks. This is the only kit on the market that will provide you with better than stock ride quality. Hope this helps.

BDS Suspension makes a 2.5" levelling kit that uses the stock springs to maintain the stock ride. It basically consists of new shackles, spring hangers, etc... You can use any type of shocks you want with it, they reccommend either the Rancho 9000's or the Bilsteins.

It's not cheap though, at around $700 CAN it's a little outta my price range. If it was $350 I'd have one on my truck already.

Here's their website. www.bds-suspension.com

If you get a quote, let me know.

Jalawso, the Bilstein 5100s included with the Edge kits are the only shocks available which are custom valved for SDs. If you buy a RS9000, MX6, etc., it doesn't matter if you order them for a Toyota or an SD. You get the same shock, albeit in different lengths. Furthermore, the new 5100s come in a bright brushed silver coating that looks SWEET.

If you go to Fly-N-Hi Off-Road they have a shackle kit for $279. I like mine and the truck looks great

I picked up the Bilstien shocks and would not change for anything.

What is the cost of the EDGE kits anyway???

HeavyAssault, the Edge hanger kits run $465 which might sound a bit high, but they are apples and oranges to the Fly-N-Hi kits. Even the Fabtech hangers which are $10 more are toys by comparison. The Edge hangers are bomb proof and are probably stronger than the frame they are attached to. Also, they utilize a longer shackle instead of dropping the shackle mount as with the FNH kit. This also contributes to the improved ride quality.

hey overkill, whe do the edge kit not include new leaf springs? I would think you would need to add a leaf or something.

Jalawso,

Here is your answer straight from Kreg Donahoe, owner of Edge:

"Stock springs have the least amount of spring rate, Agreed??? Add spring hangers that lift the truck to clear 35" tall tires... Add a custom Valved shock specific for that trucks kinetic energy to that low spring rate... WHAT do you GET???? A lift system that will clear 35" tall tire, that will articulate fully, and that gains wheel travel, as well as Rides WAY BETTER then stock simply because you added a better shock. That's How. No other lift company makes a kit that will clear 35 that rides as nice as ours."

He was of course speaking of the 4.5" Edge kit but the same is true for the 3".
