I just recieved a quote to have a 4" suspension lift installed...1200.00...Yuck..Is it really that big of a deal..? Can the average joe puddle through it..? Has anyone ever done it? It doesnt look that difficult
It's not that hard...main trouble spot it getting the rivets off the crossmember...those are easy with a grinder and a air chisel but...PITA if u need to drill them. Brake lines are also a PITA if they're frozen up...I suggest using a small hand held torch those work nice because they're not that hot.
Well...Thanks for the input. Why have I heard such horror stories? If I just go w/ a 3'' lift I heard that I didnt have to mess w/ the IFS. What do you guys think? Im getting the feeling that its gonna be my next project..all your inputs are very appreciated..any other tricks of the trade are welcome..Thanks again..
4" is not a big deal and you don't need new brake lines unless you go to a 6". I did mine and bought the kit from rough country. Cost me 500 with everything. Took about a day to do it but yes getting the rivets out sucked. That is what took the majority of the time to do.
As for the 3" not having to mess with the IFS I am not exactly sure what you mean. There are 3" body lifts which are cheaper but you do run into other issues with body lifts.
I already have a 3'' dody lift. That was a piece of cake. Ill just ground the hell out of the rivets and bang em out...w/ a 3'' body lift and adding a 3'' suspension do I have to change the brake lines?
I have found that new carbide drill bits will handle the rivets. Just drill them out and hit them with a chisel, air or otherwise and they fall right out. Works every time, no matter how stubborn the rivet.
Works great. I've got 33s. I did have to space the front bumper out about 1" so they wouldn't rub when I am wheelin. You could trim the lower corners of the bumper closest to the tire but it only took a little time to move it out and I didn't have to cut anything.
What size of wheels are you using?
15x8 or 15x10?
What about the gears? I'm running 31 tires with 3.54 gears and it runs great?
Do you have a pic of your truck?
