Yeah, agreed. I know for a fact they tuned the tranny. I was on the phone several times with the engineer who did,the tranny. I know how they did it (really cool and unconventional, not like the older trannies), when they did it and who tested it.
The person you talked to must have not understood your question.
Go to the Diablo Sport web page below, look at the update r33. The text beside this describes it as improved power and great tranny shifting.
My truck will chirp the tires (in the 65 hp mode)when it shifts 1-2, 2-3. In the 120 HP mode it really slams the shifts with no modulation at all. The shifts were very soft before the predator was installed.
If you need more info, you should probably try to call them again and maybe you will get someone who knows a little more. http://www.diablosport.com/Downloads.php
I was shocked to hear from who ever it was (at Diablo) the Predator didn't do tranny programming. The guy on the phone even asked someone and came back with the same answer. My question to them was "Do you increase transmission line pressures to firm up the shifts?"
On another note, after using the Predator for a couple days....you know the story, I programmed the SC1704 after an update. There is a HUGE difference in power and delivery. The Predator has a much broader power delivery, much more low end and horsepower. The SC1704 is like a on-off switch, as soon as 2500 or so rpms hit, a switch is flipped and the power is there. Anything under 2500rpm feels like stock. The Predator has a delivery closer to my Quad box which pulls from way down low.
I give the Predator my vote on power delivery when compared to SC1704.
Big difference between "do you increase transmission line pressures..." and "do you program the tranny." The tranny on the new engine isn't programmed the same way. You just don't do a line pressure increase. Rather, the tranny's computer is somewhat intelligent. The programmer modifies a torque table that tells the tranny how much torque is being applied and the tranny figures out the rest....
Does this mean cold as in the morining let your truck warm up cold? I have a couple starts with less than 20 miles and the tranny seams pretty darn smooth.
That is what they say. 5 cold starts. Your transmission and engine modules go through a learn process to program your truck to run in the enviroment where it is. It takes in altitude, temperature and many other factors to learn it's enviroment. It continues to learn forever, making adjustments as you go along.
It is shifting smooth but it may not be locking up as it will when fully programed. Ford naturally wants the new owner to be happy with the truck, so no hard shifts.
Just recieved my preditor for my 03 with a build date of 6/03. All I can say is WOW! Power i dont know what to do with. This is a great product. Thanks to all for all the input, i just in the shadows and read. Again thanks for the post and info. By the way my truck had an factory flash and it took no problem.
I tried mine on my 98 Mustang. It booted up but did not identify any codes. I have no way of verifing it but I think the mustang should have a code problem because it has no cats.
from diablo's web site
"The diagnostics features can be used on any Ford OBDII vehicle, regardless if the tool has locked itself to a specific vehicle or not."
Guys, sorry to change the subject, but I'm leaving town this weedend and I can't seem to find the post on replacing the lower fuel filter on my truck. Sure would be great if one the PFD's could help me out. By the way I'm planning on hooking up a laptop to my Predator on the trip to Peach Point for opening day of Teal Season and will relay any info I gather from my trip.
