Exhaust Modification?

When you Expy owners talk about a cat back exhaust modification are you getting a new tailpipe and muffler from a performance shop or are you also changing the Expy stock catalytic converter to a high performance one?

Thanks
James

My FlowMaster mods begin after the cat. Simply undo the connection before the existing muffler and install the FlowMaster system. Check their website: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/flowmaster

Hello

How much benefit to performance and economy do you feel you get by doing this?

Would the performance and economy be better if it included a high performance converter?

I tow a camper would the cat back system make the Expy noisy to ride in during towing?

I like the nice sound of performace exhasut but would not like it to be irratating on trips while towing. I was wondering because towing works the engine harder then just cruising down the highway in normal driving.

Thanks
James

Don't expect any real performance "benefit" aside from the rumble effect....the flowmaster definitely livens things up a bit.

With a Flowmaster Force II for my Expy came with a little pipe, muffler and then a tail pipe with a polished tip. Very easy to install, get a cut off wheel and slice the old tail pipe off then cut all the brackets this makes it easier to get out of the rubber bushings. The whole job took me under a hour to do. I think I did gain a little more performance I drive this 60 mile trip daily with a lot hills and after the Flowmaster my Expy don't drop down a gear as much as it did before, about 80% less. Now gas mileage should be better, but I have my foot in it all the time because it does sound GREAT. When my boy and all his friends take it out I reset the average MPG. (9 to 10) I think he has a very heavy foot.
One of the best investments I ever made.

Cat back

Hello,

Thanks for the input and the link. I think I will stay with stock for awhile. I only have 33,000 on a 2000. I use the super chip programmer already. If I did not tow a travel trailer with it, I would change the exhaust just for the nicer rumble.

Perhaps when it gets about 60 or 70,000 I will opt for a high performance cat converter.
