I have an 86 F250 4x4 and I have a problem with the heater/ac blower motor not working. For a long time it would work but I would have to turn the lock cylinder back towards me just a touch and then it would run. Now it does nothing. I unpluged the fan and energized it directly off the battery to see if it was bad and it started working just fine. Next I replaced the lock cylinder, but still no luck. I also noticed that the ac compressor does not engage since this has happened. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also has any others reported problems with the defrost selector? When I switch to defrost the air is no longer deflected up to the window. Thanks
I went through similar problems with my 1985 E150 and found the problem at the main power distribution bus on the rear of the fuse block.
Apparently the riveted connection had high resistance, as the fuses would fault at the end, yet the element was visually good. The copper bus was discolored, and while conducting key-on/running checks, the fuse endclip was hot.
I backed out the wiring for that circuit, tapped the feeder and installed an inline fuseholder, and things have been good for > a year.
