Hi.Guys... Im having a wierd one with a '95 4.9L 5 spd manual. It wants to cut out when taking off from a stop. You have to throw the clutch in and rev it to about 1500 and feather the clutch to get moving. At hiway speeds it bucks when going from coast to power. Classic EGR issue-right? Checked EGR, EVR, solenoid, all OK Did cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter. Fuel pump has 50lbs at idle, goes to 65 under power. TPS, IAC, ECT & IAT all check good. When the VSS in the differential is disconnected the truck runs perfect. Put in a new sensor, runs lousy again. Disconnected, the truck runs right, but the ABS lite comes on and the speedo doesn't work. Next step is to pull codes from the RABS module. Im probably going to get a code 6- VSS out of range. After that it goes to the PSOM which outputs to pin 3 on the PCM.I have no idea how to check the PSOM. Has anyone ever run into something like this? To give up now and take it to Ford would be an admission of defeat---not to mention the waste of the $400 or so that went into it so far. I'd really appreciate any input on this. Thanks much...Bill
Thank you, LxMan1, but it does not have a MAF. It has a MAP sensor. It puts out frequency. You can check it with a dwell meter. It was slightly out of range, so, finding nothing else wrong,I replaced it. I have a MAF system in my '94 Ranger 4.0 and I use it offroad, so it gets pretty dirty fast. Have to clean it about3x a year.
I do not have all the info with me, however I recall that the signal from your Diff goes to your speedo. That is your Problem, it is in the speedo. I will try to post more info for tonight if you require it?
Thanks, GLASMECH .... We narrowed it down almost 100% to the PSOM. I searched "Bad PSOM" and it mirrors the symptoms exactly. I put a new VSSin the diff, so we hung the old sensor on the harness plug & tie-wrapped it up. This reset the RABS lite. I'm going to call Southern Electronics and get an exchange unit. This site has to be the best resource anywhere for these trucks.
