Distributor

I really like this Forum. What a fantastic knowledge base. Thanks in advance guys. I just got a 79 460 (much power!)with new parts in the distributor. The rotor has about 1/16" of play (my other Dist. does not). Are there different diameter shafts or something. Where can I get one? I can see the wiggle between the main shaft and this shaft that the rotor sits on but it looks like it's seated properly. Also, my check valve between the carb and vacuum advance didn't seem to work when I put the vacuum gage to it so I tossed it. Do I really need to replace it?

The distributor you can use can be found in any 351M/400 engine or 460 engine.
They are all the same.

Thanks for the reply. All of the components are brand new, it's just that this shaft that holds the rotor on and sits on the main dist. shaft (sorry I don't know the proper name) wiggles from side to side. I was hoping to replace just it and not the whole thing. The shop I talked to doesn't sell single components so I guess I will get a used dist. and salvage what I need. Do you know if that check valve between the carb and advance is required?
