hey, all. i want to trade in my ranger for more room. i'm trying to decide if i'd want to buy a supercrew f150 or an extended cab ranger.. i was wondering those of you who have the supercrew would tell me any problems as far as size goes. i live in the dc area and traffic is horrible!! so i kind of need something small like a ranger to get in and out of places, but would love the supercrew for the room. also, is parking a bit of a chore? i've driven an expedition before, and though they aren't that bad, they aren't as long as a supercrew. if anyone can tell me what they think, it'd be appreciated. thanks!
i know, i should drive one for myself, but i'm too busy right now and it's darn cold to go haggle with a salesman!!
I traded my 00' Ford Ranger ext cab off on this F-150 Super Crew, last October.
I was a die hard Ranger Fan for many years, until my wife and I started talking about a family.
I wouldn't trade my S-Crew for any thing at this point, now if you wanted to give me something thats another story.
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the Expedition and the and the Super Crew are of the same length.
As far as traffic goes, the 5.4L has plenty of git up and go. I have no experince with the 4.6L, from what I under stand it is also quite adequate.
Getting into parking spaces is harder than the ranger, but not any harder than a Expedition, IMO.
Reasons I bought this S-Crew.
1. My wife and I are planning on starting a family...that means car seats, they would only work on the front seat of the ranger, and that meant my wife or me would have to sit in a jump seat, not happening. We chose the Super Crew over the ext cab F-150 because we felt that having a full rear seat for the carriers were better suited than the tiny bench seat in the ext cab F-150.
2. I go hunting a lot, and often in groups of 3-4, this means we only have to take one vehicle and save some gas. Plenty of room in the cab for 4 adults with gear, and plenty of room in the box for what ever game we may be shooting at.
3. I often travel in groups of 4-6 people, this way if inclimate weather comes around, or if I need to pull a trailer inaddition to extra people, my Super Crew can handle the task easily, rather than taking 2 vehicles as I have had to in the past. A good example of this would be going to the lake with a boat.
4. While I'd rather had a longer box, the box is still big enough for my motorcycle, and that's what was important for me.
We had talked about a Explorer, or a Sport track, but we decided that with my motorcycle and being a avid hunter, that they were out of the question.
5. I sure like how the back seats fold down and make a pretty good size area for large boxes and stuff, that would otherwise have to suffer the weather in the box of the truck (if you didnt have a cover).

yeah, i was thinking the rangers' back seat is really quite useless, except i can stop leaving stuff in the open bed.. i really like the idea of the big rear seat for people to sit in.
but the one thing here is that i'm only 20 so i don't have to worry about kids too soon, but i dont want to go out and buy a new truck like 5 years down the road just after i pay off the new one.
thanks a bunch for the input, this helps a lot. i don't think the expeditions are too big to drive, so since you all say they are the same length, this really does help my decision process.. now to search for a decent 5.4l version with 4wd.. i have to have the 5.4, no 4.6!! hahahaa.
Owned three Rangers prior to buying my 2003 F150 SuperCab- same length as the F150 SuperCrew. Liked the smaller size of the Rangers for parking, in traffic I get more respect in the F150. And, get the 5.4, you'll be happy with the power, but the gas mileage is about 13 in town.
I think they are a bit luggy in tight city traffic but it's not terribly bad. Parking for me is no problem but i'm use to big trucks and of coarse you have to push on the pedal a little harder to get up the hills, but what i give up for city driving is well worth the comfort. The supercrew is a very comfortable ride, and i have plenty of room inside but lack a little in the box because of the short length.
I bought my 03 to replace my 94 ranger extended cab. It's got more power. Grizz is right though about it feeling luggy in city traffic. I would not go back to the Ranger... not stepping into a Lariat. It's just an awsome truck.
I considered the 2004 ... I just couldn't part with the almost $40k they wanted. Not to mention the haggling. I bought my 2003 for $23k Ford Certified. It was a fair deal.

I was in the same boat.
Dont get me wrong the Rangers are great trucks, but I just wont go back to one after getting this S-Crew.
I paid 19K for mine, plus I got 9k outta my Ranger as a trade.
I really wasn't after the Lariat, it turned out to be icing on the cake for me.
